Stakeholders demand to updragde Sagarmatha zonal hospital

Rajbiraj, 13 June : Stakeholders said that Gajendra Narayan Singh Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital had to be upgraded to a 300-bed hospital. They raised the issue of hospital upgradation at an interaction organised in Rajbiraj, Saptari.

Health services at the hospital have been badly affected due to poor infrastructure. Keeping this in mind, Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal organised an interaction among stakeholders. Medical superintendent at the hospital Chuman Lal Das said that lack of doctors at the hospital had added more problems. He also said that due to lack of space patients were treated on the floor.

Das further said that as many as 12 medical officers were needed immediately at the hospital. He said the hospital had a quota for a female gynaecologist, but the hospital had not been able to appoint a gynaecologist.

Similarly, many posts are yet to be fulfilled as the posts for staff nurse and senior nurse, among others, were vacant. “The authority concerned has to manage CT scan, NICU, ICU, Culture, Oxygen plant, along with doctors, at the hospital,” he said.

Participants at the programme told Das that he had to take the initiative to improve health services at the hospital. Former mayor Sailesh Chaudhary, and former chairman of Federation of Nepali Journalists also participated in the programme.
