Oli solicits Chinese support to derail federalism: Nidhi

Kathmandu, 28 AUgust, 2017 :  Nepali Congress leader Bimalendra Nidhi has alleged that the chairman of the main opposition CPN-UML, K P Oli, had solicited Chinese support to “derail federalism” in Nepal.
Talking with journalists at the NC headquarters, Acting President Nidhi alleged that Chairman Oli during his recent visit to China had told the Chinese side that his party was not in favor of federalism in Nepal. “I read in newspapers that he even sought Chinese support for doing away with federalism. Isn’t this tantamount to capitulating to China?” he asked.
Nidhi said that UML senior leaders did not publicize the details about their visits to China and North Korea. “Why did they pay the visits, who did they meet and what did they discuss. Don’t they have to inform the public about the visits?” Recently, UML Chairman Oli had visited China, while another senior leader of the party, Madhav Kumar Nepal had travelled to North Korea. Nidhi alleged that Nepal had travelled to North Korea ignoring the suggestion of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) against paying the visit. “Nepal reportedly said that he travelled to North Korea as per the suggestions of Chinese officials. Is this not an attack on Nepal’s sovereignty?” Nidhi asked.
Nidhi argued that Prime Minister Deuba’s remarks were in favor of federal democratic republican system.  On the occasion, Nidhi also said that the visit to India by Prime Minister Deuba had strengthened Nepal’s relations with India. He said that the visit had been highly successful in terms of building trust and deepening development and cooperation.
